    Abstract

Biological knowledge of jack mackerel is not extensive, and as yet no information on maturity or growth rate has been documented. Analysis of fish caught in the Southern California Bight indicates a spawning season from March through October. By the end of their first year, most females (70%) are capable of spawning, and the percentage increases with age. Weight-length curves were calculated for a 2 month period (July and August), and for the entire year. A von Bertalanffy growth curve was determined from July-August data to represent size of each age group near the designated August 1 birthdate. (328pp.)
