    Abstract

San Diego Bay was reopened to commercial gill net fishing for striped mullet, Mugil cephalus, in that portion of the bay south of the San Diego - Coronado bridge in 1977 via an experimental gear permit issued by the Fish and Game Commission. In 1985, legislation was passed allowing up to five permits each annual season to fish for striped mullet in south San Diego Bay. Annual landings ranged from 18,700 to 46,800 pounds from 1980 through 1986. (17pp.)
